SDSS4 Postdoctoral Position at the Center for Large Telescope (CfLAT), KASI

Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) invites applications for postdoctoral position(s) at the Center for Large Telescope (CfLAT) ing in May 2015. The Center for Large Telescope (CfLAT) is an official interface between KASI and Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) Organization, where KASI is a founding member of GMT project. CfLAT is also eager to promote a development of science using existing survey data and planning for Korea-led future surveys. The position is primarily for a researcher who can pursuit his/her own researches using the SDSS4 data. CfLAT serves as an Associate Institutional Member of SDSS4 and the successful candidate(s) will have access rights to SDSS4 data even before public release. He/She will have a duty to participate various activities supporting the operation of CfLAT within 30% of his/her time.

The supporting duty may include (but not limited to) following activities, and details will be negotiated upon assignment to the position.
- Develop science cases for GMT
- Plan/Develop science cases for next-generation survey projects
- Any activities related to the operation of CfLAT

The beginning date is negotiable. The period will be two (2) years with an extension of one more year depending performance and availability of the fund. We are particularly interested in candidates who can lead sciences with MANGA and APOGEE data. Experience in optical/infrared spectros will be prefered although not necessarily required.

Other than the data right to SDSS4, he/she will be able to apply for time with MMT and Gemini Observatory through K-GMT Science Program. The other available KASI resources include IGRINS, KVN, JCMT, and ALMA, etc.

The successful candidate will be provided with the remuneration about 32,000 USD per annum (the currency conversion rate between US Dollar and Korean Won employed here is 1.00 USD equates 1,100 Korean Won) including benefits such as health insurance and national pension, etc. Additionally available are research budget, one-way airfare to join KASI (economy class), and dormitory for single person (upon request and availability).
