The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is a government-funded research institute located in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. We conduct front-line research in various fields of astronomy, astrophysics and space science, develop astronomical instruments and operate facilities in Korea and overseas. The successful candidate will be provided with the remuneration (starting from around 32,400,000 KRW(about 29,000 USD) per annum excluding severance pay) depending on qualification, research budget and financial supplement for health insurance and national pension, one-way airfare to join the KASI (economy class), and a dormitory room for single/shared occupancy if needed.(dorm fees : 150,000/90,000 KRW)
The period will be two (2) years with one year extension upon successful performance.

1. Active Galactic Nucleus and Galaxy Evolution
The galaxy evolution group invites applications for a postdoctoral position. We seek applicants with experience in data analysis for optical/NIR spectrum and imaging of active galactic nuclei and galaxies. The successful candidate will be expected to pursuit their research using the existing spectroscopic data obtained with Gemini/Magellan telescopes. This position is available from September 1, 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. An additional research fund of 6,000,000 – 10,000,000 Korean Won (~US$5,000-8,500) will be provided each year. 2. Observational/theoretical study of asteroids
The Planetary Science Group invites applications for a postdoctoral position in observational/theoretical studies of asteroids. This position is available from September 1, 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. Provision of additional research fund is also negotiable. Its research focuses on physical characterization of asteroids using multi-band time series photometry data. Theoretical studies on dynamical and mineralogical evolution of the whole population is its immediate step to be taken. 3. Near-Earth Space Environment (Ionosphere/Upper Atmosphere)
The Solar and Space Weather Group invites a postdoctoral fellow position in ionospheric irregularities study using ground-based and satellite observation data. 4. Optical-Infrared Telescope and Instrumentation
The Optical Astronomical Technology Group at the KASI invites a postdoctoral position in the area of optical-infrared telescope and instrumentation to work for the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) project, including optomechanics, electronic control, and optical alignment and/or metrology. Those positions are available from September 1, 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. An additional research fund of 10,000,000 Korean Won (~8,500 USD) will be provided each year. KASI is one of the major partners in the GMT consortium. The Optical Astronomical Technology Group is involved in various GMT development projects. The GMT Fast-steering Secondary Mirror subsystem, the high precision spectrograph G-CLEF, and the infrared spectrograph GMTNIRS are the representative ones. 5. SDSS4 Postdoctoral position at Center for Large Telescopes (CfLAT)
K-GMT Science Group, Center for Large Telescopes (CfLAT) invites the application to SDSS4 Postdoctoral position. This position is primarily for a researcher who can pursuit his/her own researches using the SDSS4 data. CfLAT serves as an Associate Institutional Member of SDSS4 and the successful candidate will have access rights to SDSS4 data even before public release. He/She is also supposed to participate activities supporting the operation of CfLAT within 30% of his/her time.
The supporting activities may include (but not limited to) followings, and details can be negotiated upon assignment to the position.
- Develop science cases for GMT
- Plan/Develop science cases for next-generation survey projects
- Any activities related to the operation of CfLAT

6. AGN Researches
Active Galactic Nuclei research group of KASI Radio Astronomy Division invites applications for three postdoctoral positions to work on AGN researches. The successful candidates are encouraged to participate in the on-going researches of the group (http://agn.kasi.re.kr) such as VLBI astrometry, radio or X-ray surveys, jet physics, LLAGNs or young AGNs. They are also expected to suggest self-initiated researches. Two positions are funded by the KASI research project ‘Origin and Evolution of AGN jets’. The other one position is supported by the KASI-INAF joint research project ‘Supermassive Black holes: turning on the most powerful engines in the Universe’ of the National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) of Korea. The starting date is 1st of September 2017, but it is negotiable. Fund will be provided to support their research activities.
The candidates who have research plans to utilize intensively the KVN (Korean VLBI Network, http://kvn.kasi.re.kr
), KaVA (KVN and VERA Array, http://kava.kasi.re.kr
and other KASI radio facilities for her/his research and for the collaboration will be considered positively in evaluation.
7. Star-forming Regions or Evolved Stars in Our Galaxy
The star formation and evolution group at KASI invites applications for one postdoctoral position in radio astronomy to work on star-forming regions or evolved stars in our Galaxy. The preferred beginning date is September 1 in 2017, but it is negotiable. An additional research fund of about $5,000 will be provided each year. The successful applicant is expected to carry out his/her own research projects and actively collaborate with the group members, who are currently leading several large projects using JCMT, KVN/KaVA, and TRAO 14m. 8. Cosmology (working with David Parkinson)
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow working in the area of cosmological analysis of large-area surveys as part of the cosmology group at the KASI (hereafter CosKASI, http://cosmology.kasi.re.kr/index.html
The position is available from September 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. Provision of additional research fund is also negotiable.
The position will involve developing analysis tools to exploit data from large-areaoptical spectroscopic surveys, for planning for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey, and/or large-area radio continuum surveys, for the ASKAP-EMU survey, and using this data test and constrain cosmological models. The cosmology group at the KASI (hereafter CosKASI) invites applications a postdoctoral fellow position in observational/theoretical cosmology, working with Yong-Seon Song. Those positions are available from September 1, 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. Provision of additional research fund is also negotiable.

One who is selected can participate in both eBOSS and DESI as a junior member, and it is expected that the candidates have knowledge and experience of some aspect of cosmological theory and/or data analysis.

10. Computational Astrophysics
The theoretical astrophysics group invites applicants for one postdoctoral fellow in computational astrophysics working with Junior Research Fellows on hydrodynamics, magnetohydrodynamics, or stellar/galactic dynamics etc. Those positions are available from September 1, 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. An additional research fund of 10,000,000 Korean Won (~US$8,500) will be provided each year. The group is young and consistently growing, equipped with a high performance Linux cluster around thousand cores, and is also active in various fields of computational astrophysics including radiative transfer, dust physics, gravitational-wave astrophysics.
11. Space Situational Awareness
The center for space situational awareness(SSA) invites applications for 1 postdoctoral fellow position in CCD photometry / celestial mechanics / automatic observations. That position is available from September 1, 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. An additional research fund of 10,000,000 Korean Won (~US$8,500) will be provided each year. The Center for Space Situational Awareness (SSA) at KASI has built the OWL-NET (Optical Wide-field Patrol Network) since 2010. The OWL-NET consists of 5 robotic observatories at 5 countries over the world, and each has a 0.5m optical telescope and a 4K CCD camera with about 1.2 degree FOV.
