  The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is a government-funded research institute located in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. We conduct front-line research in various fields of astronomy, astrophysics and space science, develop astronomical instruments and operate facilities in Korea and overseas. The beginning date is negotiable. A minimum research fund of 5,000,000 Korean Won (~US$4,500) will be provided each year.  The galaxy evolution research group in KASI is consistently growing and is active in various fields of observational/theoretical galaxy evolution researches, covering dwarf galaxies, massive galaxies, galaxy clusters, large-scale structures at nearby and distant universe (http://galev.kasi.re.kr). Enquiries can be addressed to Dr. Jongwan Ko (jwko@kasi.re.kr). ▶ P2: Millimeter wave receiver system development Radio engineering research and development group Radio astronomy division This positions are available from September 1, 2020.  An additional research fund of 6,000,000 - 8,000,000 Korean Won (~US$5,000-7,000) will be provided each year. Radio Engineering R&D Group has been working enthusiastically towards state-of-the-art millimeter/sub-millimeter wave receivers and  those active/passive components for radio astronomy since 1986.    A representative example is the receivers developed for KVN (Korea VLBI Networks : https://kvn.kasi.re.kr) that provide observations from 18 to 142 GHz. Research topics of the group include wide-IF SIS mixers, feed horn antennas, orthomode transducers and phase shifters working at mm/sub-mm frequency range.     Moreover, the group has a remarkable ability to conduct the quasi-optical circuit design which can make simultaneous observation for several frequency bands. The successful candidate will contribute to development of millimeter wave receivers and relevant components. It will provide the candidate a great opportunity to take part in the design and development of quasi-optical circuit design for compact multiple bands receiver system. This position will participate in developing a near real-time ionospheric monitoring system using GNSS data and work on the validation and application of ionospheric products retrieved from the system.  The anticipated appointment start date is September 1, 2020., but it is negotiable. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension for another one year depending on performance reviews and funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience according to the institute pay scale. An additional fund for travel and other expenses will be provided each year and the amount of fund varies with the project budget. The Center for Space Situational Awareness (CSSA) at KASI has operated the OWL-Net (Optical Wide-field Patrol Network) since 2017. The OWL-Net consists of 5 robotic observatories at 5 countries over the world and each has a 0.5m optical telescope and a 4K camera with about 1.2 degree FOV. OWL-Net is used as a major asset to Korea. CfLAT serves as an Associate Institutional Member of SDSS4 and the successful candidate will have access rights to SDSS4 data even before public release. The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) has recently initiated a research program for gravitational wave (GW) detector technology, focused on laser and optical technologies to reduce the quantum noise in GW detectors. KASI is also preparing for collaborations with advanced or next generation GW detectors such as KAGRA, Virgo and ET. Applications are welcome from researchers whose interests are located in the field of control electronics for optical systems.
