Expanding knowledge of the universe benefits humankind.

Welcome to Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute’s homepage!

As the national research institute for astronomy since 1974, KASI has conducted research activities, in particular, by developing, establishing, and operating medium- and large-sized observational facilities and instruments and has laid the foundation for the advances of science. Solidifying scientific capabilities in terms of research and telescopes, KASI works toward a higher level of research cooperation via a global network.

We are performing creative and challenging research.
We support research groups for a long-term period of more than 10 years so that they can focus on performing creative and challenging research activities. This can provide an optimal environment and basis for original and demanding research in each field.

We are promoting research cooperation by active communication.
We will facilitate active communication, one of the basic conditions underlying successful research activities, and strengthen viable and reciprocal cooperation with research groups and institutes. As a result, we hope to achieve truly essential innovation in research.

We are contributing to society by expanding knowledge of the universe.
KASI will give the research resources back to society in return for their support and interest in our scientific activities through our public outreach programs such as frequent astronomical workshops at various educational levels, training projects for school teachers, and programs for students, the potential researchers of the future. We will strive to broaden the horizon of knowledge about the universe and enhance the domestic and international stature of KASI, providing fundamental research resources accumulated steadily throughout the 40-year history of KASI and becoming acknowledged in the history of astronomy. We invite you to join us as we fulfill this dream.
