Asteroid Characteristics and Risk Analysis

Asteroid
A variety of information from the space surveillance observation data can be analyzed to study the properties of asteroids. Precise study of the rotation of an asteroid, such as identifying the Yarkovsky effect, allows precise calculation of the orbit. Objects that may have an associated risk, such as potentially hazardous asteroids (PHAs), are identified by a continual survey, and must then be analyzed to secure their precise orbital information by ongoing follow-up observations.

Subjects

  • Analysis of rotation by time-series observations
  • Characteristic analysis by spectroscopic & colorimetry → classification, origin
  • PHA survey
  • Space surveillance by the Meteo monitoring network
  • Sky surveys by wide field telescopes such as KMT-Net, LSST
  • KEEP North project- research on Kirkwood excitation exile
  • Solar system evolution
