The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is a government-funded research institute located in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. We conduct front-line research in various fields of astronomy, astrophysics and space science, develop astronomical instruments and operate facilities in Korea and overseas. We are currently looking for creative and outstanding postdoctoral scientists. The candidate will have full access to all the resources and facilities of KASI. KASI’s resources and facilities include the Gemini and the MMT through K-GMT Science Program (~15 nights per semester), 1.8-m Bohyunsan optical telescope, 1.0-m Mt. The successful candidate will be provided with the remuneration (starting from around 32,400,000 KRW(about 29,000 USD) per annum excluding severance pay) depending on qualification, research budget and financial supplement for health insurance and national pension, one-way airfare to join the KASI (economy class), and a dormitory room for single/shared occupancy if needed.(dorm fees : 150,000/90,000 KRW) The period will be two (2) years with one year extension upon successful performance. 1. Cosmology

The cosmology group at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (hereafter CosKASI, http://cosmology.kasi.re.kr/index.html), Daejeon, Korea invite applications for up to 3 postdoctoral fellow positions in observational/theoretical cosmology. Those positions are available from September 2017.
CosKASI includes Prof. Yong-Seon Song (PI), Arman Shafieloo, Eric Linder (as a visiting professor), and currently 6 postdoctoral researchers, and several PhD students.
The group is consistently growing and is active in various fields of cosmology including observational cosmology, primordial inflation, cosmological perturbation, large scale structure and dark energy. CosKASI participates in the major wide-deep field surveys such as SDSS4, DESI and LSST and have close connections to other KASI survey involvements including KMTnet, JCMT, ALMA and GMT.

2. Star-forming Regions or Evolved Stars in Our Galaxy

The KASI invites applications for one postdoctoral position in radio astronomy to work on star-forming regions or evolved stars in our Galaxy. 3. AGN

Active Galactic Nuclei research group of KASI Radio Astronomy Division invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work on AGN researches. The successful candidate is invited to collaborate on the on-going researches of the group (http://agn.kasi.re.kr) and is also encouraged to pursue independent research.
The candidate is expected to utilize intensively the KVN (Korean VLBI Network, http://kvn.kasi.re.kr) and KaVA (KVN and VERA Array, http://kava.kasi.re.kr) for her/his own research and for the collaboration.

4. Solar Corona
The solar and space weather group at the KASI invites applications for a postdoctoral positions in corona, solar wind, and CME research using solar coronagraph. The group is actively working to develop a solar coronagraph on International Space Station in collaboration with NASA. For this position we call for enthusiastic and creative scientists to work on basic research in prospect of the future science to be carried out using the new coronagraph. 5. Observational Studies of Asteroids

KASI invites applications for a postdoctoral position in observational studies of asteroids starting from April 2017. The beginning date is negotiable. The position is expected to spend more than 50% of his/her time to support semi-automated data analysis using Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) archive, jointly with Planetary Science Group members. We are particularly interested in candidate who has expertise in visible and near-infrared observation, data analysis and modeling of asteroids.
The postdoc will have full access to all resources and observation facilities of KASI including three KMTNet telescopes in the southern hemisphere, the 1.8-meter Bohyunsan and the 1.0-meter Mt. Lemmon optical telescopes.

6. KMTNet Science on Variable Stars and Exoplanets

The KASI invites applications for one postdoctoral position working on variable stars and exoplanets using the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). The KMTNet system has been performing a 24-hour continuous observations toward the Galactic bulge using a 1.6 m wide-field telescope at each of three different sites in Chile, Australia, and South Africa. For the position, we are interested in applicants familiar with big data processing produced by the KMTNet. The preferred beginning date is March 2017, but it is negotiable. The period will be two years with a possible one year extension upon successful performance.

7. Extragalactic Observational Astronomy

The Galaxy Evolution Group at KASI invites applications for one postdoctoral researcher position in the extragalactic observational astronomy team. The group consists of 12 permanent research staffs, 10 postdoctoral researchers and four PhD students. The group is consistently growing and is active in various fields of galaxies and cosmology including supernovae, dwarf and massive elliptical galaxies, galaxy clusters, co-evolution of galaxies and BHs, high-redshift Ly-alpha emitters and blobs, and cosmological galaxy formation simulations.
We are particularly interested in a young and creative researcher to work on either (1) detailed stellar populations of nearby massive galaxies using photometric and spectroscopic data or (2) co-evolution of galaxy clusters and their member galaxies.
Preference will be given to candidates with interests overlapping our group's current research interests. The candidate will be encouraged to pursue his/her own research in related areas, and at least 50% of the time will be reserved for his/her own research programs.
The position is available as early as March 2017, and will be filled by September 2017.

The group consists of 12 permanent research staffs, 10 postdoctoral researchers and four PhD students. The group is consistently growing and is active in various fields of galaxies and cosmology including supernovae, dwarf and massive elliptical galaxies, galaxy clusters, co-evolution of galaxies and BHs, high-redshift Ly-alpha emitters and blobs, and cosmological galaxy formation simulations.
For the current position, we are particularly interested in a young and enthusiastic researcher to work on either (1) Ly-alpha and dust radiative transfer modeling, (2) photo-ionization modeling, (3) observational studies on the interstellar or circum-galactic medium of nearby galaxies, (4) high redshift Ly-alpha emitters and nebulae. 9. Space Situational Awareness Center for Space Situational Awareness

(SSA) at KASI has built the OWL-NET (Optical Wide-field Patrol Network) since 2010. OWL-NET consists of 5 robotic observatories at 5 countries over the world, and each has a 0.5m optical telescope and a 4K CCD camera with about 1.2 degree FOV. Year 2017 is the first test observation year of OWL-NET.
The Center for SSA invites applications for one postdoctoral position researcher specifically for the OWL-NET. Applicants must have a Ph.D or equivalent in Astronomy or a related field at Space Science. The start date of the position is March 1, 2017 but negotiable.
Ideal candidates should have excellent skills in CCD astronomy and comparable experiences in Celestial Mechanics. Specific training and experience in any of the areas of CCD photometry, image processing, pipe-line design, automatic observation, astrometry, satellite orbit and meteorites would all be assets. The postdoctoral fellows will work with one or more of the researchers in the Center of SSA.

10. Infrared Astronomy with IGRINS

K-GMT Science Group at KASI invites the application for one postdoctoral researcher to operate and to do research using IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer).
IGRINS is an instrument jointly developed and built by KASI and the University of Texas at Austin, that delivers continuous spectral coverage from 1.4 to 2.5 μm at a resolving power of 45,000. IGRINS is currently being operated at McDonald Observatory in Texas and Discovery Channel Telescope (DCT) in Arizona, US. The successful candidate will be mostly based at the University of Texas, Austin and will visit the observatory where IGRINS is installed to attend the observing runs whenever Korean observing programs are scheduled (no more than once per month but subject to change). S/he will enjoy ample opportunities to actively collaborate with researchers at UT Austin as well as at KASI through the interactions with many IGRINS users with diverse backgrounds. The candidate is expected to spend about 40% of his/her time for IGRINS observation-related duty, and about 60% to his/her own research. Any experience in high-resolution spectros is preferred but not necessarily required. The candidate should be able to fluently communicate in written and verbal English/Korean and to drive with a valid driver’s license in US.
K-GMT Science Group is in charge of science promotion and development for K-GMT Project at KASI, and is composed of six staff scientists and two postdoctoral researchers who value diversity and creativity with passion for science.
