이 강연에서는 왜 지금 연구자들이 직접 대중과 소통해야 하는지를 이야기해봅니다. 연구실을 벗어나 시민과 만나는 과학자들이 어떻게 대중의 과학적 사고를 강화하고, 과학적 문해력을 높이며, 연구 자체의 질을 향상시킬 수 있는지 살펴봅니다. 특히 한국 사회에서 과학 커뮤니케이션이 단순한 지식 전달을 넘어 신뢰 구축과 사회적 합의 형성의 도구가 되어야 하는 이유를 구체적 사례와 함께 이야기 해보고자 합니다.

We live in an era where science and technology directly shape our daily lives—from climate change and pandemics to the AI revolution. Yet, in this flood of information, scientific facts become entangled with misinformation, and the gap between experts and the public continues to widen.
This talk explores why researchers must engage directly with the public now more than ever. We examine how scientists stepping out of their laboratories to meet citizens can strengthen democracy, enhance scientific literacy, and even improve the quality of research itself. Through concrete examples, we'll discuss why science communication in Korean society must evolve beyond mere knowledge transfer to become a tool for building trust and fostering social consensus.
